What is Pharmacognosy? Pharmacognosy refers to the study of drugs or crude drugs produced from natural sources, including plants, microbes, and animals. It also includes analysis of their physical, chemical, and biochemical properties.

The belief is that plant-derived medicines are found in the human body. They are easier to accept because they exist in nature. Around 25% of all prescription medicines in America are synthetic. This is because it has an active ingredient that comes from a natural source. In developing, around 80% of the population in these countries rely on—traditional medicines made from herbs and plants.

In the production of plants and organisms, there are many ways to be used—alternative and conventional medicines. The active ingredient is beneficial. A plant’s elements can be found in any part of its physical structure. Such as the stem or petal of a flower.

Natural products might not be present in their usual physical form. It may require a chemical reaction to make it active form. Sometimes, the active ingredient can be extracted directly from the Plant, but the active ingredient can also be made via other methods. Synthesis is the creation of a compound that acts similarly to the plant extract.
